The Aussie Bucket List

I fly out next Monday evening – JFK —> LAX —> SYD, 23 hours total (give or take). Even though I’m apprehensive and already nostalgic for all I’ll be leaving behind for a little while, I couldn’t be more excited. I have so much ahead of me and so much to look forward to in this new land of adventure and natural beauty and good vibes. I’ve been doing some research and reading other people’s ‘must do lists’ and here’s my tentative bucket list for the next 5 to 7 months:

  • The Great Ocean Road (Anglesea, Colac, Port Campbell, Torquay, Apollo Bay, Portarlington, Ocean Grove)
  • The Great Barrier Reef
  • Perth
  • Canberra
  • Whitehaven Beach and the Whitsunday Islands
  • Canyoning in the Blue Mountains
  • Port Stephens
  • Byron Bay Bluefest
  • Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach
  • Manly Beach (accompanied by Brewery Tours)
  • Coogee to Bondi Beach walk
  • Bridge Climb
  • Featherdale Wildlife Park
  • Sydney Tower Eye
  • Paddington Market
  • Paddy’s Market
  • Glebe Markets
  • Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
  • Taronga Zoo
  • Hunter Valley Wine Tour
  • see a show at the Opera House

Some bigger trips:

  • New Zealand
  • Fiji
  • Magnetic Island
  • Lady Elliot Island
  • Bali (and as much else of SE Asia as possible)
  • Maldives – in my dreams
  • Cook Islands
  • Tasmania

Hopefully I can get all the stuff in Sydney done! I’m not holding myself to any of those bigger trips, especially because if I do do them, I know I’ll have to pick and choose wisely.
